Common Ejaculation Problems in Men

When a man has an ejaculation problem, he may think he is the only man on earth that can’t ejaculate just right. Many men have problems with ejaculation – including premature ejaculation – fortunately, there are treatments, both natural and medicinal, for men suffering from common ejaculation problems. The three most common problems men have with ejaculation are premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation, and retrograde ejaculation.

Premature ejaculation

What is the true definition of premature ejaculation? For some men, if they can’t last 20 or 30 minutes during intercourse before ejaculating, they think there is some kind of problem. The average bout of intercourse lasts less than three minutes from start to ejaculation. That’s much less than the 20 minutes or more you want to last. Premature ejaculation often occurs before intercourse ever begins, affecting fertility and sexual health.

Delayed ejaculation

On the other side of premature ejaculation is delayed ejaculation. If you are chuckling and silently wishing to yourself that you suffered from this problem, think again. In some cases, men who suffer delayed ejaculation cannot achieve orgasm at all. No matter how much stimulation occurs between the man and his partner, ejaculation just doesn’t happen. However, if self-stimulation occurs, men with delayed ejaculation may be able to ejaculate normally.
Delayed ejaculation is also associated with age and lifestyle. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can dull senses, which means sex doesn’t feel the same and ejaculation may be delayed. On the other hand, with age comes the potential for erectile dysfunction and reduced blood flow to the penis. Delayed ejaculation can occur due to a lack of blood flow.

Retrograde ejaculation

When it comes time to ejaculate, a process occurs in most men that forces semen out through the tip of the penis. In some men, however, semen is forced back the opposite way into the bladder. Retrograde ejaculation often occurs as a result of scarring after surgery or as a side effect from taking some medications. Retrograde ejaculation does not change how an orgasm feels, but it could cause problems in the bedroom, especially if you are trying to conceive. Aspermia, the absence of an ejaculate, is often caused by retrograde ejaculation. Treatments and corrective surgery may help return semen movement to its normal path.

If you are having an ejaculation problem, don’t be afraid to speak with your physician. There are treatments for all forms of ejaculation problems and some treatments are likely less invasive than you may think.
